The Ghost City

ghost cityFactories Careggine is an abandoned village in the province of Lucca, in the town of Screeners di Sotto. In 1947 the company Valdarno (now Enel) decided to build a hydroelectric basin by crossing the stream in the town of Edron Screeners di Sotto. A year later, at the end of the work, began flooding the area: the water, climb of 92 feet, flooded the village (then inhabited by a colony of smiths Bresciani) by deleting.

Factories Careggine, emerges from the waters of the reservoir every 10 years or so for maintenance of the plant, where the reservoir is emptied. Then the inhabitants of Careggine mills had a total of 66, when the country emerges lives for a summer and then comes resummation. This country is also a much visited tourist site in its “season of life.”
